I wrote an article about dominator culture recently. And got it published! The 'zine was produced by Robert Gorden Uni for a feminist academic conference at Aberdeen University. My Asking For It project was shown in the art exhibition that coincided with it and I was even asked to talk at the conference! It was a great experience.

'Asking For It' was shown as part of the 'Ending Feminist Futures' conference at Aberdeen University. For the first time I included sound recordings taken while I was photographing men in alleys, outside bars and gentlemen's venues and back at mine. View a write up of the event including mentions of my work at the C word clicking here or view the text by clicking on the title above.

New Noise Arts writes about "Asking For It"! I'm really excited about this because of what they stand for as a group. They say their community: "encourages artistic practices that cut across, question and challenge notions of race, class, gender, sexuality, age and nationality and is dedicated to practice and uphold art as a mirror against which we examine society, and an invaluable tool to move beyond boundaries and definitions in search of awareness, growth and the human spirit." New Statesman links to my picture of the Feminist Fightback and tube cleaners direct action (unfortunately they do this instead of asking to use the picture for which I could actually make some money back from morning spent wrestling my camera out of the TfL security guards hands and the afternoon and evening spent developing and printing - still better than a kick in the teeth)

This poem was included in the Ladyzine (pictured)in April 2008. It was inspired by the posters for the TV series "Skins". They seemed to take over the city with their portrayal of a young girl (possibly under-age) wearing only a bra and pants looking like she'd been raped with an orgy going on around her. I felt sick at how normal that's become. The "useless cunt" bit comes from my own experience of being approached by a man late at night on a side street. That's what he called me. The two things occurred during the same week and got me thinking that we women are so often treated like cunts - either useful or useless - but almost always like cunts.

“Why do so many female artists put themselves in their work - often with no clothes on?” asked an article in The Guardian by Germaine Greer at the beginning of the year. I have been photographing men for the last six months and I think I have the answer. View the article on the F-word site by clicking here
